Dear Colleagues and Friends:
On behalf of the ICASSP2000 Organizing Committee,
we would like to invite you to join us in celebrating the 25th Silver Anniversary of ICASSP and the arrival of a new millennium in Istanbul, Turkey. ICASSP is one of the most prominent annual
gatherings for signal processing researchers and practitioners from industry, academia, and government. Next year, this
prestigious conference will take place at the Istanbul Hilton Hotel and Convention Center, from Monday, June 5 through Friday,
June 9, 2000.
ICASSP2000 will offer a full range of signal processing related technical sessions,
tutorials, exhibits, plenary talks, and more. In addition to memorable cultural and social
activities, for the first time in ICASSP series we will have two new initiatives: a
competition on "Humor in Signal Processing" and a small scale
"Job-Fair."
Early June is the best local season in Istanbul. In the
conference you will find technical excellence. In the city you will find remarkably rich
sightseeing, lively entertainment and pleasant shopping, and harmonious blending of
ancient settings with modern trends. Istanbul-Hilton, the venue for
ICASSP2000, and other conference hotels
are conveniently located in the European
part of Istanbul with a view of the Bosporus ornamented with palaces, museums, bridges,
boats, countless houses of worship, and other scenic and architectural gems.
Also, we would like to note, in response to many inquiries, that the recent earthquake in Izmit, Turkey has caused no damage
to the part of Istanbul and the meeting venue, hotels, and the schedule are all unaffected.
Istanbul is a city with a unique historical background and an extraordinary geographical
setting. The city is proud to be a capital for about 1500 years, including both the
Byzantine and Ottoman eras. Istanbul is a cultural center bridging two continents, Europe
and Asia, across the Bosporus Strait, the beautiful waterway joining the Black Sea and the
Sea of Marmara.
We would like to invite you to
take advantage of numerous attractive guided tours in Istanbul. To facilitate your
participation in these tours, we are planning to have one free afternoon for each major
sub-discipline of SP Spectrum.
You may wish to bring your
family, and let them be part of this memorable scientific and cultural event. We are
have put together a number of affordable guided
tours to extend your trip with a vacation in archeological sites including Cappadocia, the
plateau dotted with myriad of fairy chimneys, cave churches, and famous Turkish
carpetiers, or on sunny beaches along the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts. Neighboring
Greece, Israel, Egypt and Middle East countries are within easy reach from Istanbul.
It is our highest priority to
make your stay in Istanbul a most rewarding and enjoyable one. Please visit our website
frequently for updates and new information: http://icassp2000.sdsu.edu.
